Villa Carlotta in Tremezzina

Overlooking Lake Como, Villa Carlotta is one of the most fascinating historic residences in Italy, set within a dreamlike landscape.

Built at the end of the seventeenth century, the villa is named after Princess Charlotte of Prussia, to whom it was gifted by her mother as a wedding present.

Today, Villa Carlotta is open to the public as a museum and botanical garden, offering a rich programme of art exhibitions, family workshops, and educational tours.

The Rooms

In the nineteenth century, under the ownership of Gian Battista Sommariva, the villa was enriched with masterpieces by artists such as Antonio Canova, Bertel Thorvaldsen, and Francesco Hayez, transforming it into a veritable treasure trove of art.

The furnishings and architectural styles of the villa reflect the owners who succeeded one another over the centuries.

Villa Carlotta’s Gardens

Villa Carlotta is renowned above all for its magnificent gardens, a splendid example of harmony between art and nature.

The botanical garden, extending over more than 8 hectares, offers a profusion of colours and scents in every season: azaleas, rhododendrons, camellias, centuries-old trees, citrus, and exotic plants coexist to create a majestic landscape, making every visit a truly unforgettable experience.
